Dr. Kunal Pal

About me

Prof. Kunal Pal (Ph. D. 2008, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. He is currently the Professor-in-Charge of the Medical Electronics and Instrumentation Laboratory. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Dr. Rousseau’s lab at Ryerson University, Canada during the year 2007-08 for a period of 23 months, before he joined NIT- Rourkela. During his stay in Canada, Dr. Pal also served as a Vice- Chair of HQP Association, an honorary position, of AFMNet Center for Excellence, Canada. He was also a visiting fellow to Dalhousie University, Canada.  His research revolves around soft biomaterials, impedance spectroscopy, medical instrumentation and biomedical signal processing. His group is currently involved in the development of low-cost impedance analyzer for soft material characterization, cell growth and microbial contamination detection. Dr. Pal is having >100 Scopus indexed publications in various journals of repute, books/ encyclopedia and conferences. His h-index is 15 with a total citation of 646 (excluding self-citations). Dr. Pal has already handled three extramural projects of total cost INR 0.7 crore (approx). He has already supervised three Ph.D theses and is currently supervising another two students.
